Questions? We've Got Answers!

Why is it important that I go to the dentist?

Prevention is key here! Regular dental visits at our dentist office help prevent any dental issues that may arise. This includes tooth decay and cavities. In addition to keeping your mouth healthy, dental health directly correlates to keeping your body healthy. Regular visits prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. It also strengthens your teeth and helps them to look more attractive!

I’m not in pain. Do I still need to go to the dentist?

Regular dental visits help prevent dental issues from happening! In addition to prevention, the dentist can help keep your smile bright with teeth whitening, for example. Also, it is not always possible to know that you have a dental cavity without a proper examination. We offer general, cosmetic, restorative and family dentistry.

How do I find the right dentist?

It is most important to make sure that you find someone who is a good fit for you and/or your family. Make sure you are comfortable talking/communicating with your dental team. It’s helpful to have a dentist that is nearby and convenient to get to. Make sure the dentist is a member of the ADA (American Dental Association). Make sure the office is clean and professional. Our family dental office looks forward to meeting your expectations.

What can I do about dental anxiety?

First of all, you are not alone! Many people have a fear about visiting the dentist. Please communicate with us and we can ease your fears. There are many options, including different pain relieving techniques to help during your treatments.

What should my daily dental routine consist of?

Make sure to brush and floss your teeth at least twice daily. Also, brush your tongue. You should include fluoride in your daily dental routine. Adding mouthwash to your routine will also help fight tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease. Stay away from foods with lots of sugar and avoid tobacco use. Make regular cleaning appointments every six months.

Am I brushing my teeth correctly?

Use a soft bristle brush.

Hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle.

Begin at the gum line and begin brushing in a gentle circular motion.

Brush the outside surfaces of all the teeth. Repeat on the inside and chewing surfaces of the teeth.

You should spend at least one minute on the top teeth and one minute on the bottom.

Lastly brush the tongue. Brushing the tongue removes excess bacteria and makes breath fresh!

Ask the team at our family dental office for more tips on your brushing technique!

How often should I change my toothbrush?

Ideally, you should change your toothbrush every three months. A patient with periodontal disease should change their toothbrush every 4-6 weeks. If you have been sick, make sure to change your toothbrush as soon as you can. Please note that electric toothbrushes are different. Please consult with the directions to see how often you should change their heads. For more information, call our dentist today.

Can I save a tooth that has been knocked out or dislodged?

It is possible to save a knocked out tooth, but moving quickly is most important. Here is what to do...

For Permanent Teeth:

Find the tooth.

DO NOT handle the tooth by the root.

Be sure to hold only the crown.

ONLY rinse the tooth

DO NOT clean it or over handle the tooth.

If the tooth is free of fractures/not broken, you can try to reinsert the tooth into the gum.

Place gauze under the tooth and gently bite down to hold the tooth in place.

If you cannot replace the tooth into the gum, put the tooth into a container filled with the patients saliva or milk.

The tooth can also be carried in your mouth. However, be certain not to swallow it or accidentally damage it.

Call our family dental office IMMEDIATELY! If it is after hours, call the emergency number IMMEDIATELY.

For Baby Teeth:

DO NOT TRY TO RE-IMPLANT A BABY TOOTH! Any attempt to do so could cause additional harm.

If there is bleeding, apply pressure.

Rinse the mouth.

Does diabetes affect my dental health?

There may be a link between diabetes and gum disease. As with any infection, gum disease can make diabetes harder to control. It is imperative to have regular dental checkups when you have diabetes and make an appointment if you see any changes in your gums/mouth. Also keep your dentist abreast of any changes in your diabetes treatment/medications. For more information, call our dentist today!

Does pregnancy affect dental health?

Approximately 50% of pregnant women experience “pregnancy gingivitis.” This is an uncomfortable condition which causes sore and bleeding gums. Also, gum disease can directly affect your baby. There have been studies that the chemical prostaglandin (found in oral bacteria) can cause a baby to be born early and small. Please let our family dentist know that you are pregnant and would like to come in for a check up.

Don't miss this amazing opportunity to get the smile you've been dreaming of!
